I have never liked to make too much fuss over my birthday, preferring a simple meal with my small family, and this year was not different. The ‘big day’ itself fell on a Sunday, but, as my son was working that day, he treated me to a lovely ‘second breakfast’ at Rainbows in Bognor Regis the Friday before. They had a lovely selection of waffles and pancakes, and I settled for a delicious waffle with fresh strawberries and lemon ice-cream: Yummy!
I am usually very lucky with the weather on my birthday and I was very pleased to see that September 8th this year dawned sunny and warm and under a gorgeous blue sky. I thought it might be nice to go for a walk on the coast and try somewhere we had never been before. It is amazing how, after having lived in West Sussex for 21 years, we can still find new treasures only a stone throw away from our home.
We set off straight after breakfast and were able to enjoy an empty beach and the sun reflecting on the smooth waters.
The beach curved in such a way that we had to climb back to the path by the rocks to continue our walk.
And more lovely views were to be enjoyed further along the beach.
And to round the morning off, we ended up at a local pub for a celebratory pint of real ale!
I love September for its bountiful seasonal fruit and I could never resist picking my own blackberries and apples to make a delicious traditional crumble and what better time than my Birthday? We are very lucky to have these at hand at the farm, so I didn’t need to go far…
And a birthday wouldn’t be complete without indulging in my favourite pastime, so here is my latest crochet creation for a dear friend.
